Product to Project: Take Advantage of Prefabrication to Create a Long-Term Strategy that Reduces Risk While Achieving the Design Intent

Earn 1 AIA LU.

In 2016 the top reasons prefabrication was not used on a project were the architect did not design it into the project, unfamiliar with the process and lack of familiarity with experienced prefabricators. Jump to 2022, according to research from Dodge Construction Network the same three reasons still exist today as to why prefabrication is not used on a project. Given that designing and constructing the building envelope has always been one of the most challenging aspects of any building construction project, learn how prefabricated facades can simplify building envelope design while achieving more resilient, sustainable, and cost-effective projects. This course will focus on how to take advantage of pre-engineered envelope systems to reduce project risk while exploring strategies that create a long-term prefabrication approach.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will gain insight to the manufacturing and prefabrication process
  • Attendees will learn how to incorporate prefabrication strategies into their future designs and create a scorecard that identifies prefabrication opportunities
  • Understand how to align the team and the benefits of prefabrication it brings to all project stakeholders
  • Discover the steps to designing for prefabricated building envelopes and material options not available with field built facades
  • Scott Robinson
    Senior Manager of Pre-Construction
